Bowling Pin Bookends

Our local Big Brothers Big Sisters is having their annual benefit auction soon and asked several local artists if they would like to donate a unique piece of art made from a bowling pin. I thought this sounded like a fun challenge and for a great cause, so I said yes. I had so many ideas, but my practical side kicked in and I decided on turn my bowling pin into bookends. Below are some photos of the phases that it went through.

Had a friend of mine cut it in half for me.

Then I covered the pins with distressed dictionary pages.

My husband thought it would be neat to have more of a masculine theme, so I went with that idea and he also helped pick out the quotes.

Once done, I painted the wood on the inside of the pins black and mounted them onto black metal bookends.

Here is the completed project! Hope whoever wins these will enjoy for years to come.

  1. How did you cut them in half? I'm trying to do something similar for a project.
